Bret was born and raised in Long Beach and grew up in the Lakewood Village area of Long Beach and currently resides in Lakewood. He attended Lakewood High School, received an AA degree in Liberal Arts from LBCC in 1982, a Bachelor's degree from CSUDH in business and marketing in 1984, and a Master's degree from CSUDH in Public Administration in 1987.

Besides being involved with the EALB and being a Board Member for the past 6-years, I have been involved over the years on different Boards including the Second Harvest Food bank of Long Beach, the Los Altos YMCA, St. Mary's Medical Center, Community Hospital, and Long Beach City College Foundation. I am currently the Treasurer for the El Dorado Men's golf Club where I have been a member for the past 31-years.

I started my career with F&M Bank in 1984 with the intention of getting my feet wet in a "real" 9 to 5 job that would give me a well rounded view of the business world. 27-Years later I am still pursing that interim career path.

I have come up through the ranks from customer service, teller, Note Dept. Clerk, Operations Officer, Asst. branch Mg. Trust Officer, Branch Manager, and now Regional Manager. I oversee both the Belmont Shore Office and the Huntington Beach Office. The Belmont Shore has about a $191M in deposits and $126M in loans. The Huntington Beach Office has $100M in deposits and $51M in their loan portfolio.

The Bank is now 104-years old and is run by the 4th and 5th generation Bankers of the Walker family. The Bank is continuing to grow as we are at about $4.2 billion in assets as of 6/30/2010. We have 22-Offices located in the South Bay, Long Beach, and Orange County. We are in the process of opening our Corona Del Mar Office as well.

F&M Bank has always prided itself on its strength. They offer traditional style banking with 22-brick and mortar locations including a branch in the basement at Memorial Hospital in Long Beach. The Bank has a large facility in Seal Beach that houses much of the back room operations for the Bank. It is a state of the art 66,000 square foot multi-functional industrial building.

LENDING ARENA:

The Bank, as most of you know, has always been very conservative. We are currently looking for commercial deals with 50% LTV or less. We offer more attractive 20-year amortization due in 10-year deals with fixed rates as low as 5.00% for the first 5-years on owner-user buildings and 5.50% on tenant-occupied buildings.
